Comparing Numbers Up to 10
Hi there, first graders! 🌟 Today, we’re going to learn how to compare numbers up to 10 by counting objects. Comparing means you get to see which group has more, which has less, or if they have the same amount.
Let’s Look at Some Groups:
Group 1: 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎
Group 2: 🍎🍎🍎
Group 1 has 5 apples, and Group 2 has 3 apples. 5 is greater than 3, so Group 1 has more apples!
Group 1: 🐻🐻🐻
Group 2: 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻
Group 1 has 3 bears, and Group 2 has 6 bears. 3 is less than 6, so Group 2 has more bears!
Group 1: 🐠🐠🐠🐠
Group 2: 🐠🐠🐠🐠
Group 1 and Group 2 both have 4 fish. They are equal because they have the same amount!
How to Compare:
- Count the objects in each group.
- Think about which group has more or less.
- Use the words greater than, less than, or equal to to describe the groups.
Try It Out!
Here are some more groups to practice with:
Group 1: 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Group 2: 🦋🦋🦋
Group 1: 🍇🍇🍇🍇
Group 2: 🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇
Which group has more? Which has less? Are any groups equal?
Keep practicing and have fun comparing numbers by counting objects!
